Repair Workflow: Using Hot Water to Loosen Up Figures

Expand each stage for exact actions, timing, and stop signs.

1

Stage 1: Diagnose Where The Issue Is

Unmute to listen to stiff noises figures make. (Video from Reddit)

Identify what pieces are stiff so you can submerge the figure.

  • Finding the location of the stiff parts you wish to loosen up is fairly easy, simply because you cannot move them easily or because you hear an infernal creaking sound. These are indicators of stiff joints or pieces.
  • ⚠Note: Stiff joints can be caused by various reasons, but while this warm water method fixes a large majority of them, there is a chance it simply may not work.
  • ⚠Note: We will be showcasing this fix with this Mantacora figure by SexyIce. Unfortunately, for the video portion of the guide we have already loosened up this copy, so we cannot really show it on video. BUT Mantacora is notorious for being incredibly stiff across the internet, so this is why we will be using this Mantacora figure for the images.
  • ⚠Note: We will also not be using water. This place has the best lighting for this figure in specific but is very close to other electrical outlets. Safety first and all that, you know.
2

Stage 2: Throw Em To The Fishes

After isolating what piece(s) are stiff, in this case the shoulder ball joint. The next thing to do is submerge it in warm to hot water.

  • Since this Mantacora figure is a bit bigger than the bowl we are using, the best way to submerge this figure is head first so the shoulders can be soaked too.
  • After a few minutes (if unsure, wait until the warm water becomes room temperature), your figure should for one stop its creaking and also be a lot more loose.
  • ⚠Note: Depending on where on your figure the stiffness originates from, attempt to only soak that section. Since you will most likely also affect surrounding parts that are submerged. For example, Mantacora's pincers on its face become very soft if heated and are prone to warping or being damaged.
3

Stage 3: Check and Clean Up

This method is one of the most popular and first things people think to do when a figure is stiff, but it is always good to check if it worked.

  • Now that your figure is hopefully a lot more loose, it is best to check if this fix worked by gently moving the problem part of the figure.
  • ⚠NOTE: It is very important to move the problem part GENTLY! Reason for this is because of the chance this fix was ineffective to loosen up the parts. Roughly moving this figure in this state could cause it to snap.
  • In the case that your figure has not loosened up, reheat the water and submerge your figure again. But instead of letting it rest, gently move the problem part until the water again becomes room temperature.

Done!

And that is pretty much it!
