Pre Fix Checklist

This tutorial will show you how to use the most effective fix for stiff parts on figures, which is simply submerging the figure in warm to hot water.

Repair Workflow: Using Hot Water to Loosen Up Figures

Stage 1: Diagnose Where The Issue Is

Unmute to listen to stiff noises figures make. (Video from Reddit)

Identify what pieces are stiff so you can submerge the figure.

  • Finding the location of the stiff parts you wish to loosen up is fairly easy, simply because you cannot move them easily or because you hear an infernal creaking sound. These are indicators of stiff joints or pieces.
  • For this fix we will be using my Bike Chain Lubebricant. (I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS LUBEBRICANT BASED ON THE STRONG SMELL)
  • ⚠Note: Stiff joints can be caused by various reasons, but while this warm water method fixes a large majority of them, there is a chance it simply may not work.
  • ⚠Note: We will be showcasing this fix with this Mantacora figure by SexyIce. Unfortunately, for the video portion of the guide we have already loosened up this copy, so we cannot really show it on video. BUT Mantacora is notorious for being incredibly stiff across the internet, so this is why we will be using this Mantacora figure for the images.

Stage 2: Spit Some Lube on It

After isolating what piece(s) are stiff, in this case the shoulder ball joint, the next thing to do is spit some lube on it.

  • In this case our Manticora's ball joint shoulders are really stiff, so the best location to apply lube will be on that joint.
  • ⚠Note: Depending on how much lube you use, a piece will become that amount more loose. So, let's say that we apply a LOT of lube. This will cause the problem piece to be a LOT more loose, and vice versa.
  • When applying lube, ensure that you place it on every slit possible. For example, since this Manticora's problem area is on a ball joint, applying lube on the slit of the ball joint will loosen the up-and-down motion of the figure. Similarly, if it's on the socket touching the ball joint, its arm will become more loose overall.

Stage 3: Check and Clean Up

This method is one of the most effective ways to loosen stiff figures, but it's not 100%. So, let's check.

  • Now that your figure is hopefully a lot more loose, it is best to check if this fix worked by gently moving the problem part of the figure.
  • ⚠NOTE: It is very important to move the problem part GENTLY! The reason is because there is a chance this fix was ineffective in loosening the parts. Roughly moving this figure in this state could cause it to snap.
  • If the figure is still stiff, apply a little more lube until you are satisfied with its movements.
