Pre-Fix Checklist

This tutorial will show you how to use sticky tack to fix loose parts on your figures. A simple and affordable method that works great for small and light pieces.

Repair Workflow: Using Paper Towel

Expand each stage for exact actions, timing, and stop signs.

1

Stage 1: Diagnose Where The Issue Is

Identify what pieces are loose for you to apply this trick with. In this case, Arkham Knight Ver 1.5 from Revoltech Amazing Yamaguchi.

  • In this case, this Arkham Knight has a loose hinge joint.
  • ⚠NOTE: The wet paper towel trick works best when the pieces/parts are hinge joints or socket parts. The reason for this is because, similar to sticky tack, this works best with parts that just need a little more grip.
2

Stage 2: Set Some Paper Towel Up

After isolating what piece(s) are loose, the next thing to do is to prep the paper towel.

  • At this point, you have found the socket where you are going to stuff some paper towel into.
  • Lightly dampen the paper towel (as shown in image 2)
  • Place the paper towel over the socket fully extended. The reason for this is if you shove the paper towel in, you will unintentionally take up the space the peg must go into. While having it extended like this (image 3) causes the center to rip but perfectly sets a damp ring on the sides of the peg, giving it its needed friction and grip.
3

Stage 3: Insert the peg.

Now that the paper towel is both lightly damp and over the socket, reattach peg!

  • Since this issue is on the hinge, the next thing to do is bend the hinge to ensure there is enough tack so that the space within the socket allows for more friction.
4

Stage 4: Check and Clean Up

Now that there is a piece of paper towel stuck within the socket and peg on this hinge joint, it's time to check if it worked!

  • Now that you have a piece of paper towel in the hinge joint, gently bend where the hinge is (in this case, we will bend the knee, which is a hinge joint).
  • If done correctly, you should have a lot more resistance when bending the hinge joint or socket/peg parts.
  • ⚠NOTE: Do not force the hinge joint! Depending on what type of material the hinge is made of or how dry the towel is, it might cause something to snap. So, be gentle when testing for movement.
  • ⚠NOTE: If this paper towel method does not work for your figure, do not fret. This does not mean you've done this trick incorrectly. It might be a case where the socket and peg are not exactly compatible. For instance, Revoltech Amazing Yamaguchi Spider Man Ver 2.0's knee socket is a little shallow or the peg is at an awkward angle. This unfortunately causes the paper towel to push out the peg.

Done!

And that's it!

6

Options!

These are some options in case you do not have paper towels or if your paper towels are too thick.

  • Best Substitute: Saran Wrap (specifically the sticky ones) (DO NOT WET! It is perfect as is.)
  • Tissues
  • Thin Napkins
  • Printer Paper (NON GLOSSY)
  • Cotton
  • and other papers that become mushy when dampened by water.
